Vladimir Putin Takes his Injection, 2012

I didn’t mean for this to be Vladimir Putin, but someone told me it looked like him and now I can’t get it out of my head.

A Demon Speaks to Steve Jobs, 2012

Gel pen ink on 70 lb sketch paper.

I’m gonna start posting some of my sketches. I’ve been learning to draw, and I’m still not very good but occasionally I’ll draw something that I like.

Most of my drawings are completely spontaneous, and the juxtapositions are often unplanned (I draw one thing, then want to fill up the rest of the page with something else, usually unrelated) but end up interesting. In this case I drew the little demon and then started drawing a face. At some point I decided the face looked like Steve Jobs, so I went with it. Then I noticed that it looked like the demon was whispering in Jobs’ ear. I like it.

I haven’t studied anatomy or perspective or anything yet, and my technique is still poor but if you have any other feedback I’m all ears.

Right now I draw in cheap pocket sketchbook with Pilot G-2 pens. I don’t know why, but I much prefer drawing with these pens than with “real” art supplies. Someday I’ll work with real tools, but for now I just like doing this.

I was gonna try to do a good job of scanning these, but I actually like how doing a bad job turned out, so I’m gonna stick with this for now.
